The Past Perfect Continuous is the past version of Chapter 8. It describes an action that had been going on for some time BEFORE another past event. Hindi feeling: ‘kab se kar rahā thā’. Form: had + been + verb-ing — same for every subject.

The golden rule: this tense is Chapter 8 pushed one step into the past. ‘I have been waiting for an hour’ (up to NOW) becomes ‘I had been waiting for an hour when he finally came’ (up to a PAST moment). One word changes: have had.

Stative verb rule, one last time: know, own, be, love never take -ing in any tense. Duration before a past moment with these verbs simple Past Perfect: I had known him for years before we became partners.

Continuous asks how long the activity lasted; the simple Past Perfect counts what was finished.
