Future Perfect

Intermediate–Advanced40 min25 questions7 sections
Step 1

Quick Look

The Future Perfect looks at a future deadline and says: by then, this will already be DONE. Hindi feeling: ‘tab tak kar chukā hoongā’. Its signature word is BY — by Monday, by 2030, by the time you arrive.
Sentence TypeStructure + Example
Affirmative
Subject+will have+V3
By December, we will have completed the tower.
Negative
Subject+will not (won’t) have+V3
We won’t have finished by then.
Question
Will+subject+have+V3?
Will you have finished by Friday?

The golden rule: Future Perfect needs a deadline — stated or implied. No ‘by...’ moment in sight? You almost certainly want Simple Future instead. ‘I will have called him’ hangs in the air; ‘I will have called him by noon’ stands firm.

A deadline plus completion: not later than that moment, so you stand at the deadline and look back.
